WE WILL CALL THEM ANNA AND ANGEL

Anna has a daughter named Angel, one of five children.  Angel is an adolescent and a beautiful light.  Anna has made sure to tell all of her children the importance of speaking out if someone harms them.  She has made sure to go over every precaution in order to protect her children from the hands of abuse.  They listened.

Yesterday was a very sad day for Angel.  Her mother’s boyfriend, whom Angel has trusted for nine years of her adolescent life, decided to hurt Angel in the most horrific of ways.  All of the counselling Anna had done with her children could not protect Angel from the monster yesterday. 

So, we ask, “Why?”  Why do these things continue to happen to children?  As I draw a deep, sad breath, the feeling of emotion rolling in me like a roaring sea, I have no answer.  What I DO know is that Anna did all she could do, and because of that, Angel has a foundation to build on…the love and support of her mother. 

The tiny ray of light, pushing its way through the darkness, is that Angel KNEW she had the love and support of her mother, just as she knows it even now.  Angel reached out to her mother immediately, telling her of the atrocity and called her home.  Anna…protector, momma bear…. now thrown into the arena of our judicial system along with her precious daughter, forever changed.  My heart breaks, but I know that without the open dialogue Anna had with Angel and her siblings, Angel may have believed the monster and stayed quiet.  What a brave young lady she is.  They will both have to stay brave now.
